Enough Already
J. Bruce
I've been reading the posts on this website for a year or so now and I can't get over the odious criticism of the films as well as of Jackson. I can't help but be reminded of Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob strike back, a stupid movie, but right on in its assesment of internet "critics." I mean really with all of the complaints that some of you offer you certainally spend a good deal of time posting here. But if I may I'd like to make a few enlightening, I hope, comments.
First of all, Peter Jackson did NOT write the script of these movies alone! If you're going to direct a slanderous comment towards someone, try Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.
Second of all, in focusing on the admittedly weak spots of TTT are you going to tell me that you were completely and totally unmoved by portions that were breathtaking? I assure you more that the scenery was dead on. How, as a Tolkien Fanatic, can you look at Andy Serkis' portrayal of Gollum and not be moved to tears, or at least awestruck pride? For me just seeing a horde of southrons marching to glut the belly of Sauron's army was a priceless moment in my life that I'll not soon forget.
Finally, why all this criticism now? I don't seem to recall a petition to Jackson after FOTR? And that movie, which I loved, totally and completely robbed Frodo of his bravery, charm, and character. You see, there are inherent pitfalls in this process. For example, no one individual or small group of individuals can produce a movie from a beloved book that will satisfy everyone. Clearly PJ, Fran, and Philippa have a differnt vision of Frodo than I do. I don't see why that is so hard to grasp and accept for people.
This is what we get for a live-action Tolkien movie, granted it isn't how I would have done it, but who cares. It is probabbly the best stab anyone will ever make at producing a live action Lord of the Rings. And hey, you may not like it but look at this home page, see that scale of how much money it's made? I guess someone likes it!
