Therese, I Couldn't Have Put It Better Myself!
Kimmy

I first saw LoTR when my family and I rented it about a year ago. The only background information I had on it was a large black and white poster my brother used to hang on his door as a teenager, complete with bleeding orcs and an old wizard smack dab in the middle. So needless to say, my perceptions of the story were limiting. I didn't even know LotR was a book until someone enlightened me. Anyway, so here I am, sitting down to watch The Fellowship, with no expectations what so ever and no motivation to sit through it other than curiosity, and before the prologue even ends I am automatically hooked! I'm talking absolutely obsessed! Now I have been obsessed with fanatasy stories before, but never like this! I began visiting fan sites everyday, I bought the extended dvd the day it came out, and I refer to the actors by name in conversations! The movies are a compliment to the LotR novels! I have friends who I have hooked on LotR just by showing them the film. Heck, the film even got my father to read the series, and he never sits down to read anything, never mind a fantasy novel! I myself am beginning to read the books now and they are just as delighting as the film. I don't care about the missing Tom Bombadil or the extra parts with Arwen etc. Both versions of the story are great and entertaining! What went in the movies had to go because of length and because the way a film has to flow. PJ made a great film which inspired people to love LotR and told a good story at the same time! I think that deserves some patience and understanding from all us fans.
