March 18, 2003 Stick to What You Know This is in regards to the debate that has recently been dominating this forum. Of course, I mean the "America=Gondor, America=Mordor, Iraq=Gondor or Mordor, Bush=Sauron or Gandalf, Ring=nukes" debate. My suggestion to all the people taking part in this debate is to stick to what you know about: ideally Lord of the Rings would be nice. Many people that come to this site, like myself, know quite a bit about Tolkien's work, and therefore they can make intelligent statements, or ask intelligent questions about Tolkien's work. But I don't think I've heard one intelligent/relevant statement about the current events in our world. This is most likely due to the fact that with Lord of the Rings, we have a source of information which does not change or lie: The books. With the current events, all(or just about all) of you are spitting back what the news/movies/magazines have told you. You people all think that you're bringing some new interesting idea to the forum, but your just feeding back these boring poly-regurgitated ideas that we all hear almost everyday, and then(most tragic of all) you try to relate everything to Lord of the Rings. Please stop wasting everyone's time(including your own) and talk about what you know about, or 'adopt' an idea that hasn't been heard and share it. |
