When Eomer calls the horses, he says, "Hasufel, Arod." Remember Arod, The horse that Legolas and Gimli ride for the rest of the story? "And as ever Legolas rode with Gimli upon Arod." In the story Aragorn's horse(as far as i remeber) is Roheryn. I don't understand why you think that Brego should have been Gandalf's horse. There is none better than Shadowfax(one of the Mareas). By day his coat is like silver, and at night he passes silently as a shadow. "...The Nine cannot vie with Him." I hope this helps.
