Re: Re: Re: Be Grateful...
Curious George
Andrew, although Undomiel's post was negative, I agree with most of what he/she said from a logical viewpoint. TTT had some major flaws, whether as a stand alone film, or part of the trilogy. There is a turd in every trilogy it seems, and even though it's decently made, it looks like we've found the one for LOTR.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Two Towers, but it does need criticism. Unlike most other directors, Peter Jackson actually cares about what the fans think - at least he says so. He's really trying to do his best to please everyone, so he needs our input.
As for the giving & getting etc... The only people who have been GIVEN anything are those who own an illegal copy of TTT at this moment. It may seem like PJ's given us something but honestly he hasn't - except for a bargain on the DVD price (I was also pleased to get a free TTT ticket upon purchase).
One more thing, I think the one of the weakest arguments for the film (and it's recurring all the time) is to say "If you can do better, only then can you criticize!" I, for one thing, am not a filmmaker. I am an accountant. It would be like me saying to Peter, "hey man, if you can do my taxes any better then come do it!" It's totally irrelevant.
We have a testimony, Fellowship, which was an awesome movie. It is a witness of PJ's talent. It doesn't matter how much time PJ spent on this film, if people don't like it, then people don't like it; and it makes for an even stronger testimony to his apathy in making TTT.
As I said, I really enjoyed it, and it had some flaws; but I also see the logic behind Undomiel's essay. All it needed was a little more care and refining. I, too, am an artist in my spare time and know the degree of diffuculty it takes to make even the simplest of things. As a result I can appreciate the many beautiful aspects of TTT, and its artistic qualities, but after seeing it a 4th time I still have mixed feelings...
