Sorry Radagast, but yes Pippin dies when he stabs the Troll and the body crushes him beneath it. Later when Gimli is discussing the incident he mentions that when he dragged the giant carcass off poor little Pippin he checked and the hobbit was indeed dead! This conversation [with Pippin] on the field of Cormallan happened after King Elessar had used his skills to revive the little fellow, of course.
