April 9, 2003 A Responce to Lotr's Responce Lotr, you made a good point. I didn't mean for my statement to come across as "I felt it was a sacrifice to like the movie". I guess it must have. I'm just a big fan of the books, and I dislike when a)people diss them, b)when people tease me for liking them, and c)when the story gets altered. I understand why PJ altered the story; I know it was necessary. Making a movie is hard and adapting a book is harder (and adapting a book like TLOTR is the hardest thing since granite!). But, you've got to admit, they made Faramir seem like a real corrupted guy up there. In the book he says something to the effect of "I wouldn't take the ring if I found it by the road"...in the movie Frodo had to push away his sword and run to keep him from taking it! Can you see how that would irritate me a little? But, as I said before, I took Sam's line as an apology of sorts, so I don't mind anymore. Besides, I've heard the extended edition is going to have a lot more Faramir in it, so I look forward to a clearer depiction. It's HARD to accurately represent so many characters in such a limited time space! So, sorry if I sounded harsh (or just ridiculous, as I know I must sometimes). Thanks for correcting me! |
