I've Found Something Highly Interesting
Mehtare

This may have already been noticed, but just yesterday I was reading the transcript for TTT, and I noticed something! I got really extited about it, so I have to tell everybody - but no one else I told thought it was...

As we should know, God just isn't a factor in Middle-Earth - that's just how the story is. They have the Valar, but Hobbits wouldn't really know about or acknoweldge them much, would they? (I'm not sure how to put this, so I'm trying.)

But yesterday I noticed that in the scene (and now I remember hearing it in the movie) where Frodo, Sam, and Gollum are in front of the Black Gate, Sam clearly sais, "God save us..."

I went back and reread that part of the book, and it doesn't have that sentence - why would it? Tolkien would be contradicting himself! - but It does have the next sentence Sam sais : "...My ol' Gaffer'd have a thing or two to say if he could see us now." Or something along that line. But if Sam wouldn't know who God was, unless they really did have God - but In my knowledge, in all I've read, they wouldn't.

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this or that they - after reading this and seeing for themself - think that that is kind of interesting?! Or if I'm wrong - I'd like to know!!I just couldn't believe it when I read it, that something like that would be in there.
