Ack!!
Lilly
Wow, you guys, we've been running in circles trying to compare, contrast, and critique HP and the LotR. I'm beginning to fear that this is becoming a big HP-LOTR debate site! Pro-Potters have made their point; Anti-Potters have risen to the occasion. I'm tired of seeing the same arguments being made over, and over...I mean, everyone wants to throw in thier opinion and they have every right, but can we try to keep it down? HP has been sufficiently critisized and sufficiently defended.
Although there are books that I dislike and disagree with, I appreciate them if for no other reason than they were written by someone who wanted to provide some kind of amusement, or thought, or advice for others and that someone, somewhere thinks it's great. Maybe it doesn't amuse me: fine, to each his (or her) own. It's hard to write a book, and though some stories are more thought out than others, or more well-told than others, or similar to others, they cannot really be called better or worse, just as no author can be called a better or worse person: every story, like every person, has a personality of its own and is in an arena of its own. No story is BAD, no story is GOOD, and no story is too long (it's your attention span that is too short! ;D). It's all a matter of opinion. And my opinion is that we're spending way too much time on one train of thought.
You know, I was really thinking SOMEBODY would have mentioned something about the Chronicles of Narnia movies being made. Lewis and Tolkien were friends--is it true that Tolkien actually disliked the Chronicles? Does anyone have any cast reports?--Or any opinions on who should be in the cast? Let's hear it!
