Lord of the Rings vs Harry Potter
Ollie

Due to their release dates, Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings where bound to be rivals. They have been compared a lot and people are still divided over which one is best. The Lord of the Rings has to be the best. Its characters are a lot more interesting and deeper than any from Harry Potter, the plot keeps going all the way through the book and there is never a dull moment! In Harry Potter it is the same story for the first 2 books and only in the 3rd and 4th does the plot change. While I did enjoy reading the Harry Potter books, they did not have the same "pull" or brilliance of the Lord of the Rings. The movies of the Lord of the Rings are 2 of the best I have ever seen. The Fellowship of the Ring film was fantastic and The Two Towers was just superb especially the Battle of Helms Deep. The Harry Potter movies were good but were too long for the plot and they cut the parts of Snape and Gilderoy Lockhart, 2 of the best characters, down to a minimum. Being a true Tolkien fan I have noticed some very interesting things about Harry Potter - the name Dumbledore is also the name of a creature in the Lord of the Rings. Hargrid's dog is called Fang and again this name also appears in the Lord of the Rings as this is the name of Farmer Maggots dog. When Harry meets Voldemort in the forest in the Philosophers Stone, Voldemort is a wraith in a black cloak exactly like the Nazgul. Again in the 3rd Harry potter Books the Dementors are introduced and they match the description of the Nazgul. Voldemort's servant, Wormtail is like Saruman's servant Wormtongue in The Two Towers.
