An Interesting Find
Mithril Miner

I was just peeping back in the archives (always fun to do!) and I found an interesting article by Robert Van De Water. In this article Robert says that 1) Arwen shouldn't be a warrior princess with a huge role and 2) that she shouldn't be rebelious. (By the way, the article is on the first page of the 1999 archives: those were the good old days, weren't they!). I don't know what ya'll think, but I think that this has, in a way, come true.

Fist off Arwen isn't a huge Xena: warrior princess. But she is more of a fighter, as we saw in the Fellowship. She teased Aragorn with a sword, and fought Nazgul (admittidly from across a river). She is far from the Evenstar that Tolkien depicted in the books, of which she only plays a small part. In the movies, she is like an omnipresent godess that comes to Aragorn whenever he needs her, and the near-death experience didn't help (not that it wasn't interesting: I thought the effect was wonderful)! Almost every other scene in TT, it seems like, has some mention to her. But anyway...

Secondly, she is rebelious. She wants to stay when daddy says go. In Robert Van De Water's article he said it would make Elrond look bad to be at the head of such a family. I think PJ pulls it off wonderfully (but if I have to see another shot of Liv Tyler crying I might have to puke--no offense to Liv, of course!)

Do you think Robert Van De Water was correct? I don't know if you are still out there Robert, since many people have come and gone, but if you are, do you think your assumtions were correct/

What do ya'll think?
