Frodo and Mount Doom: Response to G
Beleg Strongbow

This is a spoiler, so if you haven't read RotK, don't read any further..

Okay, I'm assuming if you have read this far, you have either read RotK or know what happens. Anyway...

In response to G, you said of Gollum:

"Instead, Frodo could overpower him and cast him into the fire with the Ring and thus redeem himself. This may only be a small change and I would not welcome it."

I have to disagree that this would be a small change. And I don't think that PJ would make such a drastic change, becuase Tolkien was very intentional in how he ended the ring's fate. No one had the strength to cast it into the fire, and the only reason that good won was because of Gollum's lack of balance. To change the ring's ending like that would essentialy make Frodo the best person in the world, because he would have mastered the ring.

As Mithril Miner has said before, Sam or Frodo pushing Gollum into the fire would be a complete change of character for them. Frodo doesn't have it in him to push Gollum. (By the way, Mithril Miner, that article was right on!!)

Sorry for this very vociferous explination of my idea!

Only twohundredsomeodd days to Return of the King!!!!!!!!!!!
