April 28, 2002 A New FotR Film Having seen the Fellowship of the Ring I was extremely dissappointed in the translation of it. I think the fact Christopher Tolkien had no input made a major impact into the film. It gave the writers too much "artiistic licence". The new scenes included condradict arwen's role. THe impression is given and Viggo said this himself is that Aragorn goes out of his exile for Arwen. But as the book implies, he not only does it for love but also for duty, honour and has been preparing for the taking of the Kingship of Gondor his entire life. The impression of Boromir is of a coward. In the books he is a hardended warrior who does not sound like he is about to burst into tears most of the time. I could go on and on and on and would indeed go on but the discrepencies between book and film are too much.
