In response to the question posed by Anatar, it always seemed clear to me that Eowyn was the one who actually killed the wraith. The blade of westerness had the power to weaken the wraith so a normal blade would harm him, but I think you would be hard pressed to convince me that a blade in the back of the knee would have been fatal to one as powerful as the witch king. Now a sword slashing between crown and mantle as Tolkien put it, would have taken the invisible head off the shoulders so I think that would be fatal.

I really look forward to that moment in the film. It will be awesome. It is one of my favorite parts in the book.
