The Witchking's Demise
Manofwesternesse
Just thinking about Annatar's post on the WitchKings's demise. For my money I alwasy understood it to be Eowen who dealt the telling blow.
OK Merry got in a sneaky one from behind (& what bravery it took for a hobbit to even contemplate doing that, they all cowered at Weathertop when faced by the same enemy),cutting a sinew behind the WK's knee if I remember aright, and though that may have been a severe blow my belief is that it was not a fatal one. BUT it gave distraction enough to enable Eowyn to deliver the killing blow.
I would expect that Peter & Co.will adhere pretty close to this aspect of the Book, provided Merry travels to Gondor with 'Dernhelm' in the movie (which I saw as likely), then there should be no reason to make any significant change to the scene in question.
(Always the optimist me!)
