Extended DVD Commentaries, and Another Story
Magic Fire
I was reading Paths_of_the_dead's statement the other day about the director's commentaries on the extended DVD. I had been unaware of anything but the cast commentaries, and was delighted to find out a few weeks ago(thanks to my trusty step son) that there was also these commentaries. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a real insight into why Peter Jackson did what he did and does what he does. You find out some really choice tidbits of information, too.
Also to Lily, who came up with a great idea for everyone to tell how they came to find the Lord of the Rings:
When I was a Junior in high school (some 31 years ago) a girl who became my best friend rather quickly after I met her that year said that there was a book that I absolutely MUST read, called The Lord of the Rings. It was three books, she said, and when I went to the library all they had was the Return of the King. I checked it out and (impatient me) started to read it, much to my best friend's dismay when she found out. "NO NO! You have to start with the first book!" Now I can't remember whether I went all the way back to start with The Hobbit, or read the trilogy first. The rest is history! I have passed on the tradition, as my step son and I have become fast friends and Tolkien fanatics together! My story has a sad part, and that is that my best friend, who I have never forgotten, was murdered 10 years ago. When I went to see The Fellowship and The Two Towers for the first time, I sat down and said to myself, "Miki, this one is for you!" Sure wish I could have watched them with her!
