Re: Ring-vision

Amy, as I myself am currently rereading the hobbit I understand your quandary. I think an important thing to remember is that the hobbit was written seperately as a children's book and while it does setup TLOR I don't believe Tolkien knew that at the time he wrote it. Another interesting clash of stories I noted is when they are preparing to cross the mountains (I believe that's when they said it) and someone mentions how wild the lands are on the other side pointing out that they don't even have a king. Of course in LOTR the lands west of the mountains don't have a king either so I doubt they would think that peculiar. Also, the apparent greed of the king of the wood-elves seems a little incongruous with the portrayal of the elves in LOTR. Of course, that's just my opinion.

WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILER

In reply to Lilly's question, I would have to say the scene I am most looking forward to is the arrival of Aragorn's "Aramada of the Dead" at the Pellinor fields. It was always one of my favorite points in the books. I was half-expecting Eomer to also fall the first time I read it when suddenly salvation is delivered by the dead. I'm sure Howard Shore's score for this scene will be amazingly heroic and powerful. Possibly starting the music off despairingly when they first see the ships and believe it is the reinforcements of the enemy. Then cut to Aragorn standing proudly on the forecastle as the banner unfurls behind him and the music rises in triumph. I definitely think it will be a great scene and have complete faith in Shore and PJ to do much better than I could. That's just always how I saw it in my head.
