May 31, 2003 Forging a New Ruling Ring G, an explanation of why Sauron could not forge another One Ring may be because he wasn’t strong enough to do it again. In the Silmarillion it says “Sauron made One Ring to rule all others, and their power was bound up with it, to be subject wholly to it and to last only as long as it too should last. And much of the strength and will of Sauron passed into that One Ring: for the power to govern them must be a thing of surpassing potentcy…”. As you say, part of his spirit was bound to the Ring. A very large part I would say, because the destruction of the Ring brought about the destruction of Sauron once and for all “he was utterly vanquished and passed away like a shadow of malice”. I do not think he had enough strength to make a new Ruling Ring. |
