Arwen will die of sorrow? Elves can do that.
When elves or halfelves choose, it is final. Maybe because of their souls? When elves die (they are not supposed to) they die for real. No heaven and no hell. When humans die their souls reside in the Halls of Mandos until the undoing of the world.

This is, by the way, the reason I hate the scene with the Lorien elves coming to the rescue in Helm's deep.

Gandalf couldn't defeat Saruman because the elven rings are not powerfull in this way. More creative(or preserving) than destructive.
