Andrew, i may be wrong, but i don't think that what happens with Aragorn, Theoden and Wormtongue in the movie, happens in the book. But then again, i could be wrong... (SOMEONE GET ME A BOOK!)
You're right though: that really vacuumed on Aragorn's part to say something so silly. It really didn't make sense, especially since only a few minutes later, the soon-to-be-king of Gondor tells Theoden that he wants Rohan to go to war. Silly people; you'd think they would have fixed that a little. That's a real mistake.
