June 18, 2003 The Chetwood and the Interactive Map In response to Bob Praz: I had another look at the map after reading your post and I think I agree with you, that the problem is not that the Old Forest and Barrow Downs have been deleted, but that Bree and all of the roads have been moved to the wrong location, and that the Old Forest has been incorrectly called The Chetwood. Using Sarn Ford as a reference point, it would seem that Bree is south of what should be The Old Forest but what is called The Chetwood. There is a line of hills east of the incorrectly labelled Chetwood which presumably are the Barrow Downs but are not labelled. I take it you think the hill with the 3 little houses drawn on it is actually Bree. On Bilbo’s map in the introduction it is actually marked as Bree. This makes sense. There is some sort of forest (with no name) north of this hill which presumably should be The Chetwood and the Midgewater Marshes are to the East. But that means that the East-West Road on the interactive map runs South of the Old Forest and not North of it as it should. I guess it has to to reach the incorrectly shown Bree. If the road was moved to where we think Bree should be, then when you headed East it would run directly through the middle of the marshes instead of to the South of them… I think that this part of the map is just one big mess, and let’s leave it at that. |
