June 20, 2003 Rings of Power The Nine rings for men did not confer invisibility (for that matter no ring did, not even the One, not true invisibility). The Nazgul were not visible to mortal eyes because they were spirits. Only beings that were in the spirit world could see them, that includes other spirits, wearers of the One, Elves, Maiar and Valar (the last three simultaneously live in both the physical and spirit world). In creating the One, it was given much of the spiritual power of the Master. This enormous spiritual power was such that any lesser individual would be dragged by it into the spirit world. Only a being with total mastery could stop this from happening. Speaking of rings, on the DVD there is a picture of a Nazgul ring, it's my humble opinion that it is completely wrong. While it is pretty cool, there is no way Annatar working side by side with elves would create something that would look like that, red eye and "entrapped" skeleton.
