The Elves of P.J.
Niphredil

I’m afraid I do not see how portraying the elves on film more like Tolkien did in the books makes them any less ‘real’. Real to whom? People who have not read the books I presume. Aren’t P.J. and Co trying to bring the Lord of the Rings to life, which means reality is what the Professor has written on the page. What I would have liked to have seen in the film is a more complete picture of the elves. Their ‘joy’ as well as their sorrow is something that is continually emphasised throughout the books. I also think that it is their joy that has more of an impact on the other characters, and helps bring them hope. If I were Sam, I do not know if I would have been so eager to meet the elves of P.J.
