June 23, 2003 The Age of King Elessar Telcontar I'm afraid I can't help you in locating where Aragorn's age is stated, Paradox, though I would head towards the Appendices. Though I don't remember exactly where I read it, I do remember reading that at the time of his coronation he was 88 years of age, not 86. The reason for his extended age though, is not elven sustanence, though it is linked with Elves. The children of Eärendil, Elrond and Elros, were given the choice of the Half-Elven: the choice to be counted as an Elf or mortal Man. Elrond chose to be numbered among the Firstborn, and Elros chose mortality. Elros thus was set up as the first king of Numenorë, and he and his descendents (in the end, Aragorn) were given life three times the normal span of Men (something like 240 years). So while at present Aragorn is nearly ninety, his body would have aged 40, maybe 45 years at most (which is, thankfully, how old Viggo Mortensen appears in the movie).
