Underhill, Here's the Song:
Lilly
"Hey, ho, to the bottle I go
To fill my heart and drown my woe!
Rain may fall and wind may blow,
But there shall beeeeeee
Many miles to go!
Sweet is the sound of the pourin' rain
And the stream that leaps from hill to plain!
But better than rain or ripplin' brook
Is a mug of beer inside this Took!"
The first verse is actually the song sung by the hobbits traveling through the Old Woods, minus one line. The second verse is a verse from Pippins' "Sing hey for a bath at the end of the day" song. The last line [Pip's solo] was entirely made up. So when they say that Phillipa Boyens and whoever else wrote the lyrics, they're kind of lying. It's two of Tolkien's songs put together with one original line.
...And from rumors I hear, there's going to be another hobbit drinking song in the ROTK. Merry and Pippin dance on the table for the Gondorian Soldiers.
Enjoy!
Melodiously yours.
~Lilly
