Defending Boromir
fluidshaggy

I have to strongly disagree with drac0n1us' assertion that Boromir comes off as a coward in the film and as I recall there have been others who attacked Sean Bean's portrayal of Boromir. When I first read the book, I was glad when Boromir died. He seemed such a pompous, self-important person. The movie potrayed him as a flawed man who wanted to do right but felt the wait of his short comings. I found him a much more intriguing character in the film and was definitely more affected by his death.

As far as Gandalf not cluing in the rest of the fellowship as to what had occured in Moria, my guess would be that he didn't want to add to their reasons to fear the mines. He knew he had to keep that option open, no matter how much he feared it.
