Warg: The Two Rings
Crasius
Imagine a Ring with was created by, I don't know, some anonymous Maia in which most of his strength, courage, and compassion were poured into the said Ring. Now give that to the greatest Hero who would ever live. They would be a pretty amazing Hero, wouldn't they?
So why is it so hard to grasp Warg's speculation towards the forging of such a Ring? "Since it wasn't in the book it is total Lord of the Rings heresy to even MENTION such a thing". Totally ridiculous....he was just speculating into what Middle-Earth would have been like had there been two rings, one good and one evil, and how it would have shaped the story instead of the (great, awesome, adjective of your choice) one Tolkien created.
Warg, I think your idea is an interesting one. I think that perhaps Middle-Earth would have been different in the sense that the Ring created for good would have been weilded by that time's greatest Hero, perhaps for a direct confrontation against Sauron (bearing his Ring). The Last Alliance of Men and Elves would have been different too, I think, since the battle wouldn't have been so lop-sided in favour of evil (except that Isildur cut the Ring from Sauron's hand). Then again I think such a Ring of Good would have skewed Tolkien's idea of "Absolute power corrupts absolutely", hence those susceptible to the Ring's influence fall under its spell...some easier than others (Frodo/Boromir anyone?).
