Movies and Essays
Diana

Well, I just finished "The Return of the King" about an hour ago. I'll soon read "The Simillarion."

Danny, it's true that authors pour pieces of themselves into their works. People's writings represent their personalities and backgrounds in some way, and writers often get ideas from their experiences. Tolkien portrayed some of his war and possibly religious experiences in "The Lord of the Rings." All the discussion on religious issues have confused me. I just enjoyed stories for what they are.

Lem, you and I had similar responses, only my essay was probably posted too late. I usually read the newly-posted essays each day, and if I have an answer or comment, I submit my essay the same day. However, I've noticed that my essays don't get posted until four days later. I wonder if it's like that for everyone. Anyways, I didn't think the camera was fast, but I agree about some scenes being too dark. I understand that the story takes place in several dark areas, but some of the scenes were too dark that I couldn't make out what was going on, or the faces of the speakers. That's one reason I got lost in the movie.

Brett, I didn't mean they made Boromir evil, but he appeared evil-looking. I agree that Sean Bean did a good job.

DracOn1us, I agree about making six movies, one for each "book," and release each one within a shorter time span. I think they shouldn't make fans wait a whole year to see each part of the triology. It's too long of a wait.

There's also a website where you'll find a seciton that lists and discusses each change fromt he books to movies. I visit it frequently, and there are also news, surveys, and works (art and writings) submitted by Tolkien fans. The site is "http://www.tolkienonline.com," and to see the list of changes, click on a tiny flashing banner near the top that says "Ancalagon."
