Hey Annatar,
Your question about whether Sauron was redeemable or not sparked my interest---FINALLY something I can talk about!!! ;) hehehe... well since you take it from a religious standpoint I will too. I definitely believe that Sauron could not be redeemed...your argument stands on the fact that according to religion every being has the power to repent and become innocent. However, Sauron does NOT belong to the race of men. He is a Valar. So if you are comparing this to "religion" Sauron was an "angel." He CHOSE to forsake Eru and join the "evil side" with Melkor. Religion states that fallen angels cannot be saved. Once they have chosen against the Mighty One they seal their own doom. Therefore, Sauron was "decieved," if you like, to the Dark Side and cannot be bought back. The only thing he can do is try to cause the most damage he can to Eru and his created beings...even Melkor when he was judged..SEEMED to repent but eventually fell back into darkness... however Eru turns evil into good (Melkors discord in the music was used by the One and was in his purposes)
Anyway, that's my viewpoint of the thing..anybody else got something different??
All peace.
