What?! Two Towers Not Wonderful!
Tinowien
Reading old posts from January, back when I hadn't found this forum, I was shocked to see reviews of Two Towers that insulted Peter Jackson and said the movie itself was a snooze.
Aigh! Is there anyone still around this forum who can explain this further? I am shocked.
Two Towers was the movie that got me into Lord of the Rings, people. I never cared much about FOTR, only saw it a few times, didn't care about the story or the hot guys or anything. I didn't care for the books, having read Fellowship and not being interested enough to continue. In hindsight, it was because I understood very little of it. (I was eleven, okay.) But I did enjoy The Hobbit.
So I saw Two Towers. Ouch. It knocked me off my feet. It moves me the way FOTR can't. Treebeard's voice, and the thrill I feel when he is tromping through Fangorn clutching the hobbits, cursing orcs, and the music pounds, I just feel the absolute ancient power of that creature and Ents come alive for me.
That is an example, one of many, of what TT does for me. It made me sick to read people calling Peter Jackson a sell out and the actors poor. Can TT have a little credit, if only for bringing one more person to love Tolkien?
And by the way, I came home after watching TT and finished the books on my Christmas break. Now, after a few months of learning all I can about LOTR on the net, I have returned to read the books. I love them. I understand them. They simply get better and better. I am slowly moving through Two Towers, and loving every minute of it.
