I Don't Have An Article Title
Tavra
Ok, first off, does anyone know of any good LOTR chat rooms?
Second. Ok. We all love the LOTR books, right? (If not, you can just leave this websight. We don't like you either.) So, we want other people to really like the books too, right? Well, in my experience, when you see a movie, and then read the book, the book can be REAAAAAALLLLLLLYYYYYY boring, because you already know almost everything about it. I think the LOTR movie was very good, and sometimes I was bummed when they left great parts of the book out (like Sam hitting Mr. Ferny with his "wasted" good apple.) Then I thought, you know, that just makes it better to read the book. The way the movie is done, it's great for people who have read the book. And for people who haven't, there is so much there that they get a little overwhelmed and lost. But, the best part is, the books are soooooooooooooooooooo much better that people can see the movie, then read the books and not be bored because there are so many surprises that haven't been given away in the movie. I was especially sad about there not being a Scouring of the Shire in the movie(Yeah, there won't be). But hey. That is one of the greatest, funnest, best chapters in the whole story, and let's face it. There is just not enough time in a movie to give it justice. And so, it is not ruined, and it's a great surprise for people who are reading the books for the first time. So, as it is, I'm glad now that so many things had to be left out. Sure, we don't get to see some of the best parts, but other people can read the books and not get bored, but get hooked on everything we already love.
Thirdly. About no Scouring of the Shire. It's gone, and Peter Jackson has the nerve to tell us we won't be disappointed? What am I missing? How could we not be disappointed? I thought about that a long time, and I came up with a possible answer. Maybe there IS a way to keep us all happy. Now, if this is what happens, I don't want to give it away. But I just can't keep my theory to myself (I think it's a good theory). For those of us who have read the LOTR books, we all know how the movie is just a BIT rushed(eye rolls please). In the books, Frodo takes FOREVER to finally leave the Shire. Too long, which almost proves disastrous, as we all know. In the book, Gandalf shows up, scares Frodo, and, boom badda bing, Frodo's off. In only a few hours. Gandalf comes in the eveneing, Frodo leaves in the morning. Without telling anyone, what's more. Is it just me, or is this a bit too familiar? Kind of like in that other cutesy book that Tolkien wrote. Let's see, what was it called? Oh yes, I remember. The Hobbit. And what happened when Bilbo finally came back? Well, I won't say anymore. I don't want to totally give it away. If you've never read The Hobbit, it wouldn't be fair to us to give it away to you. But I'm sure some of you now know my theory about what they will replace The Scouring with in the movie. What else could possibly NOT disappoint us? Without giving it away to anyone except those who know about Bilbo's return, would those who have read The Hobbit please tell me what they think about my idea?
And fourthly, that's all.
