Arwen vs Glorfindel

I have just a quick question here. Why did they cut Glorfindel out of the movie and why did they use Arwen to rescue Frodo? It was Glorfindels horse that took Frodo away from the Ring Wraiths. Arwen had nothing to do with that. I hear alot of people saying that Liv Tyler should of had more screen time and more lines, Arwen didn't do a thing in the book, why do they feel she needs more time on the screen when in the book her character doesn't do anything? Weird eh?
