Suddenly You Could See...
Lilly

...a dawning light break over her features. Her eyes seemed to light up as that pivotal moment of true realization struck her: and as one who truly comprehends for the first time, she saw with eyes unclouded and said with voice confirming:

“Oh. Now I get it.”

Shame on me if I didn’t even remember that section of the book! So there was an explosion! Gosh, it’s high time I re-read!

But, in my own pitiable defense, Helm’s Deep was indisputably the most difficult section of the LOTR for me to read. Somehow I couldn’t picture in my mind the wall, or the mountain, or the gates, or how Gandalf came or from which direction he was coming, or where on earth he found all those warriors. After re-reading twice I at least cleared up the matter of Eomer with myself. But the whole battle of Helm’s was shrouded in mystery to me, and I couldn’t explain it in any more detail than “they won.”

So the movie helped me there. And it was more correct than I was. This totally puts the TT higher up in my esteem now. Thank you all so much for the clarification: I’m going to get my book now.

I was wrong. And too quick to condemn. And there you have it.

Very Hastily yours (the Ents would hardly approve!)

~Lilly
