Hail Annatar, I was wondering if anyone would reply to the Mazarbul issue - I saw the flaw in my arguement even as I pressed 'submit'. You are right about the main door being large, but the door by which the Felowhip fled down the satirwell is said to have been much smaller, and unlike the movie rendition the indication is the stairway is closed with walls and roof. How then would the winged demon hope to get throught he door and down the stairs. Also the line by Gandalf that the Balrog "laid hold of the [door] ring" seems to indicate a creature of much smaller proportions than seen on film.
