September 13, 2003 Yah, Seriously, What's Up With the Pointy Ears? Hey Nephredil... you brought up a question that has long been in my mind. Why do the Hobbits have pointy ears in the movie? The only reason I can think of is that Jackson wanted to make it clear that these creatures were not just children or short humans...but there's nothing in the book that suggests that, and I for my part, always imagined them with normal, human-like ears. Like its not THAT bad, but it's not extremely subtle either. Anybody else have a comment?
