The Eagles

Every time the eagles appears in LOTR they are called upon.

When Gandalf is trapped at Isengaard Gwaihir is summoned by Radagast. When they arrive outside Mordor they were summoned by Gandalf.

The eagles are "related" to the ents and their existence is explained in the 2:nd chapter of Quenta Silmarillion (of Aulë and Yavanna). The following is said by Manwë: In the mountains the eagles shall house, and hear the voices of those who call upon us.

This indicates that the Istari may call Manwë & co. for help and are then aided by the eagles. The eagles as well as the ents have probably an idea of the wizards true essence.

This is just my interpretation and it is open for criticism.


Any flaws in the language is probably caused by the fact that English isn't my native language.
