Theoden's Poem, Pheriain Ears, and Kazaa
Jarrickon Half-elven
Frodo_Lives, what Theoden says there is actually an abridged version of a poem recited by Aragorn right before they get to Edoras. Here it is given in full:
Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?*
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;*
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills in shadow.*
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning,
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?
*lines that were given to Theoden.
(By the way, I add that scene to the list of tearjerkers; where it shows thousands upon thousands of thickly-armoured Uruk-hai, and then this insignificantly small number of children with wooden shields and mail coifs.)
Concerning Hobbit's. . .ears. I believe they were given strange ears by PJ and Co. to help distinguish them more as a separate race, just as Elves were given pointed ear-tips (which were never mentioned in the book, but look fabulous), and Dwarves were given huge rounded ears and big ol' ugly faces. Another possible reason for the Hobbit ears is that they were noted to have exceptional hearing ability and in the film they wanted something to represent this.
Lastly, Foxy, Kazaa is not a site but a program you can download (www.kazaa.com) that enables you to share files of all types with everyone else that has it.
Durin's Beard, this was a longer article than I thought it would be. . .!
Namárië!
