Re: 'Where is the Rider?...'
Rune of Mirkwood

I thought it a very interesting and good question, posted by "Frodo_Lives" on September 10th, as I have wondered myself while watching The Two Towers DVD and this particular scene where King Theoden stands prepared to suit up in his war armour.

In the book of The Two Towers, it is actually Aragon who actually starts to 'chant' these words in a language "not known to The Elf (Legolas) and Dwarf (Gimli)".

These words are apparently a forgotten poem - "long ago in Rohan" -recalling how tall and fair was Eorl the Young, who rode down out of the North. "So men still sing in the evening".

The name or type of horn "blowing" is not mentioned. Perhaps as valiant and brave as the Riders of Rohan, like those of Gondor, (Boromir carried the Horn of Gondor) blowing a horn loud before battle was appropriate and gave an inner strength to the warriors.
