Wings... and Other Things
tall_hobbit

I've recently been re-reading the trilogy (at Fellowship at the moment, marking pages frantically as I go!) and I also find the need to put my two-cents in! On the Balrog-wing issue, the book clearly quotes:

"His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings."

(FOTR pg 370)

On the same page (but before) it states that the Balrog was indeed holding the blade and whip:

"In its right hand was a blade like a stabbing tongue of fire; in its left hand it held a whip of many thongs."

I'm not sure how they represented it in the movie, but that's how Tolkien represented them.

Hoom...
