Gunpowder

I know I'm a bit late on the subject, but I'm now on TTT (and still marking pages!), and I did notice some lines of the subject that I think Lilly? brought up...
On pg. 155 of TTT Aragorn sais to Theoden:
" 'But the Orcs have brought a devilry from Orthanc,' said Aragorn. 'They have a blasting fire, and with it they took the Wall. If they cannot come in the caves, they may seal up those that are inside. But now we must turn all our thought to our own defense.' "
On the next page it mentions:
"Blasts of fire leaped up from below shaking the stones."
And then on the next page...
"There was a roar and a blast of fire. The archway of the gate above which he had stood a moment before crumbled and crashed in smoke and dust. The barricade was scattered as if by a thunderbolt. Aragorn ran to the king's tower."
It doesn't say that it was in fact gunpowder, but that is probably where they got the idea. They will probably use it in ROTK, also - so we'll likely hear about it in the commentaries.
Hope that cleared up some questions!

Who new - the Lord Annatar a romantic! But, alae, I do share similar views on Fate. I believe most of us on here are Christians and understand you well! It was surprising, though - I have not heard anyone (but myself, to myself) talk a least a bit deeply! My friends have no understanding of the books or such and can rarely understand me!
