Annatar and Sulimo
-shieldmaiden-

Annatar, I am so with you on the fate thing. I'm coming from the same Catholic/non romantic perspective and you worded it very well. Another thing example of the fate/free will thing is with Turin Turambar. It wasn't his fate to suffer how he did. He just kept making wrong decisions all the time. He could have avoided everything he went through, he had no "fate" that would happen no matter what. That's why making the right decisions is so important.
Sulimo, I found on the movie scripts on councilofelrond.com that Gandalf says at Theodred's grave, "Westu hal. Ferdu, Theodred, Ferdu." Which means "Be-thou well. Go-thou Theodred, go-thou." It is Rohirric which is baisically just Old English. Eowyn says "westu hal" to Theoden in the book when they are getting ready to ride to Helm's Deep. Namarie and westu hal everyone!
