I was wondering what you meant by this quote, "Tolkien's colleagues say that before Tolkien became a Christian, he was a devout Catholic. LotR was written before he converted." Tolkien was a devout Catholic his whole life. His mother died when he and his brother were very young and they were raised by a priest. (I might be a little off on some of this, but this is what I remember anyway.) If you read J.R.R. Tolkien's Sanctifying Myth, it explains a lot of who different characters represent. It is from a Catholic perspective and very insightful. (Annatar, you seem like the kind who would enjoy reading this book.) Namarie everyone and Happy Hobbit Day! Westu-hal!
