September 25, 2003 Becoming a Christian From Roman Catholic? Tolkien wrote the trilogy when he was a Roman Catholic, and then later on he became a Christian. That's the oddest statement I've ever read about the professor. Make no mistake fellow Middle-Earthlings, Tolkien remain a devout Catholic all his life, which definitely meant he was a Christian. Far as I'm concerned, the only person I've read, who was involved with the late professor, who converted to Christianity was his good friend C.S. Lewis. In a protracted theological, philosophical dialogue since their acquiantance, Tolkien eventually persuaded Lewis to the fold of Christianity, which by the way inspired the latter to write the Chronicles of Narnia after converting. |
