What Did I Say?
Pip

Let's not talk about religion? I take it back.

Chrissy, you're on.

First of all, you obviously have not met a Roman Catholic (as I have) or you would not talk about them so. I know for a fact that Catholics do NOT worship Mary and never would because it is against the 10 Commandments, which, by the way, Catholics DO believe in. Catholics HONOR Mary (very VERY different from WORSHIP) because she was the mother of God. It may be just me, but I think that being the mother of Christ would be percieved as an honorable position. Maybe it's just me. I've never seen a Catholic "bow down and worship" Mary. Have you?

I won't even comment about what you said about RCs not believing that Christ is God, because it made no logical sense to me at all. I don't know ANYONE who thinks that way, and I don't think you really do either.

But coming back to the main point, (because this is not a religion forum) I think that either you're so-called close friends of those who knew Tolkien are lying to you about that fact, or you are being misinformed. Tolkien remained Catholic to his dying day unlike his cronies C.S. Lewis and Charles Williams.

"Lewis and Williams were members of the Church of England, but there is now no Catholic burial-place in Oxford other than the corporation cemetery at Wolvercote, where a small area of ground is reserved for members of the Church of Rome [...] for this is the Catholic area, and the graves of the emigres predominate over English adherents to faith. Several of the tombs bear glazed photographs of the deceased, and the inscriptions are florid. In consequence a grey slab of Cornish granite rather to the left of the group stands out clearly, as does its slightly curious wording: Edith Mary Tolkien, Luthien, 1889-1971. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, Beren, 1892-1973."

Don't believe me? Read it yourself. This is a quote from Tolkien: A Biography. It is written by Humphrey Carpenter. Look it up in your library. Very interesting book.

I back up information before I state it.

Oh, yeah, and that quote you used? Where did you get it? The Bible? Is it just me, or didn't you get your bible from none other than the CATHOLICS?! Without the Catholics, you would have no bible to quote!

Pip is a goof, but he isn't stupid. Please don't insult Pip's intelligence.

Sorry for being so long,

;)
