Chrissy, Chrissy, Chrissy, I feel so sorry for you. You would not have written something so foolish had you known the truth. First off, Catholics don't, and never have, worship Mary. She is holy, God would not send his Son into the world from some one who was not "holy," but we do not worship her. We do honor her. That is something quite different. And we do believe that Jesus is, was, and will be God forever. And as for Tolkien, he was Catholic from a young age, though I am not sure if he were from birth. His mother was Catholic, but his father was not. C.S. Lewis also became Catholic, though not until on his deathbed. Some of my close Catholic friends didn't even know that and argued with me about it. But I did read in a biography on C.S. that he received the last sacrament before his death (making him Catholic). C.S was first atheist, then he met with other professors (such as Tolkien) and was converted to Christianity. It was not until what I have stated already that he became Catholic. But please!!! Inform all of your friends that Catholics are, and always have been Christian! If you look far enough back in your own faiths' history, (which ever born again "denomination" you are) you will find that your faith is but a stem from the Catholic beliefs. Your church has changed much of the traditions and broken away from Catholicism. I don't think you should go around saying the dictionary is wrong (and disregarding it) … it is going to get you into much trouble in life. If for some reason you read that Tolkien was Christian some where, and thought that made him not Catholic you would be quite wrong. You should be careful about such things, especially if you are in college! Whew! That would get you into trouble! Well I have written quite a good deal of ideas and facts, and a good deal less insulting than I thought I would too (yes I thought about flat out slamming you, but that wouldn't be very Christian would it(hehehe)?).
