I agree with a couple of Diana's points about the movie. Namely, that:

1) Lothlorien was a major let down - this goes to the point I made in my article that we needed 4 movies, and for the first movie to end with the escape from Moria so that more time could be spent fleshing out Lothlorien at the beginning of movie 2. The way the movie portrayed it, it was more like a forgettable footnote than the awe-inspiring glimpse of a forbidden elvish realm that it was in the books.
2) Gimli (and for that matter, Legolas) were completely vacuous characters with nary a dialogue! Hopefully the special 3.5 hour DVD version will make some amends.
