Knowledge Inconsistencies and Other Stuff
Lilly

Well, once Sam knew that Boromir was dead (as Faramir told him earlier), he probably used his hobbit-sense to put two and two together: Frodo must have told him of Boromir's outbirst, he knew the ring was dangerous, Boromir is now dead...so...? There you have it.

As to the inconistency of Gimli's knowledge of Elvish, mentioned in a post by...somebody (sorry: can't remember) a few days/weeks (school time blurrs together) ago, maybe Gimli knew a little Elvish, but couldn't understand it fluently, like me and my Spanish (soy...un...queso...;). Maybe he had learned a few odd words from here or there...kind of like how any kid you know could probably count to 10 en espaƱol, and give you a few words even, but if you were to ask that kid about the weather in spanish, he'd look at you funny.

Why does Gimli somehow know the word ladder, by coincidence? I don't know: why can I only say the phrase "I have a duck in my shirt-sleeve" in French? Beats me, but at least his knowledge came in handy for him. I'm still trying to think of a situation in which that phrase could be put to use...

And as the the hobbits' mimicking the 'cockroach shuffle'...(who brought that one up? I can't recall that either), I laughed when picturing this too. But I imagine that with all that heavy dangling orcish crap haning of them they'll have to adjust their gait a bit to recomensate...perhaps a bit of a waddle...

PostScript: any of you French students out there wanna correct my grammar/spelling/usage? This was given to me by a friend who is taking...latin, so I doubt her knowledge

Post-PostScript: PJ changed his mind!?!?!? Ghan-Buri-Ghan IS appearing??!!?? YAYYYYYY

Post-Post-PostScript: I'm wondering a lot about Pippin's song. It's supposed to be sad...high pitched, do you think? or lower? Slow, no doubt, and definitely in English, or else how could it be a ditty from the Shire. Yet maybe not. And...I cannot picture a hobbit Dirge, for some reason...

AH! THE SUSPENSE!! THE LACK OF SLEEP!! THE HUMANITY!!!

THE FRENCHNESS!!
