On What Aragorn Shouts
Richard P.

I believe that actaully what Aragorn shoults is Elendil, who was the establisher of Arnor and the father of Isildur and Anarion. Elendil is also one of the last "true" Numenoreans, sailing out of the west from the drowning of Numenor. Aragorn is a direct descendant from Elendil which is what gives him right to claim Kingship of Gondor even when he is descended from the line of Kings of Arnor. Elendil is in turn descended, indirectly, from Earendil the Mariner.

In the books Aragorn often shouts Elendil.... one such instance can be seen at The Bridge of Khazhad Dum, where Aragorn and Boromir try to go back to save Gandalf........ Aragorn again shouts "Elendil", whilst Boromir shouts "Gondor".
