Things I'm Not Sorry Didn't Make It In...
Lilly
Lately we've been lamenting all the book-things left out of the movies...but I've a couple things I'm GLAD I'll never see stuck into the movies...
Have any of you been to TORN lately? It had some pics up supposedly from the TTT EE. They're still there, but I won't make you go see 'em: they were from a flash-forward kind of deal where Frodo is seen turning into Gollum (If you've seen the AWESOME Smeagol->Gollum pics, they're almost identical, except it's Elijah Wood and not Andy Serkis). A chance for the audience to glimpse the possible future...
MAN, I'm SO glad that was left out in the end (for indeed it was). Maybe the delivery of the scene was swell, but the pictures look SO hoaky, so lame, it's almost like some kind of behind-the-set joke. Although I'm all about the depiction of Frodo's deterioration, that's one thing I'm not sorry to miss. And don't get me wrong, Wood's expressions and all look great, he's a swell actor, but...eh...Gollum just doesn't look good on this guy.
Another, well...I'm not sure if it's out or not, but I'm almost certain it is (you see, I've jinxed myself now, it's DEFINITELY going to be in). I'm referring to the scene in the ROTK where Sam finds Frodo at the top of the tower...in his...condition. I KNOW I've brought this up before, but I'm pretty sure I'm right when I say they're leaving that bit of family-unfriendlyness out (because the page is one thing, and film is ultimately another).
I've been looking at every pic I could find of Frodo on Mt. Doom, and in every one he's wearing his hobbit shirt and straps (braces, suspenders...they're all straps, you know?). This means he retains some clothing. This means we probably won't find him without clothing, but without cloak, chain mail, sword, and pack...and his pockets thoroughly searched.
I mean, some things are BETTER left on the page, after all.
There are other scenes left out I'm not sorry for, but those are the winners (and that last one is
PURE SPECULATION!!!!!
so don't take it TOO seriously, even though I do).
And you all? What aren't you sorry to not see?
Yours.
