Shakespeare and Penguins
Bruce Jr

Bonjourno, was just thinking about why the films are so special, and so good - I think one of the main things is the casting.

What I mean by that is that I think Tolkien's writing has this innate sense of theatricality to it, and accordingly, superb Shakespearean/theatrical actors were cast in key roles. For instance: Ian McKellen, acclaimed as Hamlet, Iago, Richard 3rd, 3 of the hardest roles to play; Ian Holm, acclaimed as King Lear, possibly an even harder role; Sean Bean, acclaimed as Macbeth, quite a similar character to Boromir; Bernard Hill, Hugo Weaving and John Noble are all highly respected theatre actors too.

Just wonderingg if anyone thinks along the same lines, or if I'm madder than a penguin with pink panties.
